The Shared-Volume Anchorage Method

EN 1992-4 has no clause for two anchor plates on perpendicular faces of the same corner, nor for a channel section wrapping a member on three sides. This paper sets out the method used in AAS for both cases: competition between anchorages is treated as a question of volume rather than of area, each failure body is integrated numerically over the concrete, and the fraction that is neither shared with a stronger neighbour nor outside the member becomes a reduction factor r. Includes a fully worked calculation in annex.

Where Are the Cracks in the Definition of “Cracked Concrete”?

A critical review of the normative basis for the cracked-concrete default in post-installed anchor design, and the case for a probabilistic classification

EN 1992-4 defines the reference crack by its width and says nothing about its depth, so a shallow surface crack and a crack through the full section are classified alike — while the qualification tests behind the classification reproduce a crack that traverses the whole anchorage. This paper asks whether the near-universal cracked default is proportionate to the evidence, recovers the probabilistic reading of BBA Guidance No. 39, and proposes a criteria-based framework in its place.
