What is the BA-NY drywall anchor?

Plasterboard is a thin skin with a cavity behind it, so an ordinary screw simply pulls out. The BA-NY is a strap-toggle anchor that combines a metal profile with a plastic strap. Once pushed through the hole, the profile folds flat against the back face of the board and spreads the load over a large area, giving the highest capacity in the drywall anchor range. Because the plastic strap holds the profile in position, the screw can be removed and refitted without the anchor dropping into the cavity, so it can be reused. It is manufactured by INDEX.

Where it is used

• Heavy fixings on plasterboard walls, including single and double-layer board
• Ceiling fixings that must resist a constant downward pull
• Mounting TV brackets and heavy screens on drywall
• Shelves, cabinets, fittings and equipment where a high-capacity anchor is needed
• Hollow block and similar hollow materials

Installation — five steps

1. Drill a 13 mm hole in the plasterboard.
2. Align the metal channel with the strap and push it through the hole.
3. Pull the strap to bring the channel flat against the inner face, then slide the ring up until it sits tight against the outer face.
4. Snap off the plastic strap protruding beyond the wall.
5. Drive a 6 mm screw through the fixture into the anchor.
