What is a pull-out test and why does it matter?
A pull-out test (also called a proof or bond test) applies a controlled tensile force to an installed anchor, dowel or rebar and measures how the element behaves under that load. It is the practical way to confirm, in the field, that an anchor has been installed correctly and that the base material carries the intended load.
On-site testing is especially important for chemical anchoring and for rebar planted with chemical adhesive, where the strength of the connection depends on correct drilling, thorough hole cleaning and proper injection. A pull-out test turns those installation steps into a measured, documented result.
Proof load versus load to failure
Most site testing is proof testing: the anchor is loaded up to a defined proof value and held, to verify it does not move or fail. In a laboratory or a qualification programme, elements may instead be pulled all the way to failure to establish their ultimate capacity. The M-2008 PRO covers the medium-to-heavy load range with a capacity of up to 125 kN.
How the M-2008 PRO works
- Set up over the anchor — position the bridge of the device so the hydraulic ram is centred and aligned with the axis of the anchor or rebar being tested.
- Connect the element — couple the tested dowel, anchor or rebar to the device using the matching adaptor from the kit.
- Apply load — increase the hydraulic force gradually and steadily up to the required test load, watching the gauge.
- Read and record — record the load reached and whether the element held, moved or failed, and keep the reading for the project documentation.
- Release and pack — release the pressure, disconnect and return the components to the carrying case.
