What is the ABR A2 stainless steel dome-head self-drilling screw?
A stainless steel dome-head self-drilling screw (Stainless Self-Drilling Screw, Dome Head) is an engineered fastening solution that combines a drill point (drill wing) at its tip with a rounded, flat dome profile (Pan Head / Dome Head) at its head — all made of stainless steel. This design lets the screw pierce the base material on its own and thread into it in a single continuous action, with no need for pre-punching or pre-drilling a hole.
ABR A2 is ADIT’s stainless steel dome-head self-drilling screw, made of stainless steel 304 / A2 (SS304) with a passivation coating, designed and approved for direct fastening into aluminium profiles from 2 to 4 mm thick. Quick installation guide — ABR A2 stainless self-drilling screw (for aluminium)
- Mark the drilling point: a light tap with a center punch for accurate centering will prevent the screw’s drill point from sliding at the start of rotation.
- Prepare the correct driver: use a driver at the rotation speed (rpm) that matches the screw diameter per the table above. Unlike carbon steel, stainless steel is sensitive to friction — too high a speed can cause galling and break the drill point.
- Drive perpendicular to the profile: hold the driver at 90 degrees to the material with steady, continuous pressure and no interruptions. Driving at an angle or with intermittent pressure causes increased friction and a weak, damaged connection.
- Stop when the dome head seats: when the screw’s dome head seats against the aluminium surface — stop in a controlled manner. Continuing to drive after seating raises friction and endangers both the screw and the thread formed in the aluminium.
